  • Where do you see yourselves in 5 years’ time?
  • You’ve just been mistakenly fired from your job because of the fault of another colleague who is also your best friend? What do you do and why?
  • You’re playing in a version of who wants to be a millionaire and you’ve gone all the way and just won a million dollars. The host now offers you a chance to win more money. Which of the following options do you choose and why ?
  1. He will toss a coin and if you call right you can double your winnings to Two Million Dollars. If you call wrong you go back with nothing.
  2. He will ask you one more question. If you answer right you get One and a half Million Dollars. If you answer wrong you lose two hundred and fifty thousand dollars from your winnings
  3. You walk away with just the One Million Dollars

Right after University you will strive to get a good job or pursue your dream of being an entrepreneur. (Maybe you already are an entrepreneur)

Whichever path you take you will need a success toolkit. You will need to be equipped with skills and values beyond just your academic degree.

What do today’s employers seek?

Earlier we used to ask everybody for academic results. We now do it only for new graduates. We have narrowed our selection criteria to four categories: first, the focus on general cognitive ability - an assessment of how bright candidates are, whether they are capable of learning. Second, leadership traits.Cultural fit or 'googliness' comes third. Are candidates like Google-are they comfortable with ambiguity, non-hierarchical and conscientious; do they take responsibility for what is around them? The fourth aspect, and the least important, is expertise.

Laszlo Bock

Global HR Head and Sr.VP People Operations of Google

Replying to the question " How has hiring at Google changed over time?"

Quoted in the Economic Times - dated 23rd Oct,2012
I would look for the hunger, passion and aspiration to succeed. Besides this, they should be people who are happy to assume responsibility and ownership at a young age. We also look for people who show initiative and leadership in even the smallest things. With the world we live in changing so rapidly, we need young people who are open and adaptable to change, and are willing to embrace it

Pramit Jhaveri

CEO , Citibank, India
Answering ET question on "what are the key attributes you would look for in a young leader?"
Quoted in the Economic Times - dated 23rd Oct 2012
As you start your .. career, look for opportunities, look for growth, look for impact, look for mission....build your skills ,not your resume. You are entering a different business world than I entered. Mine was just starting to get connected. Yours is hyper-connected. Mine was competitive. Yours is way more competitive. Mine moved quickly, yours moves even more quickly. As you lead in this new world, you will not be able to rely on who you are or the degree you hold. You’ll have to rely on what you know. Your strength will not come from your place on some org chart, but from building trust and earning respect. You’re going to need talent, skill, and imagination and vision. But more than anything else, you’re going to need the ability to communicate authentically, to speak so that you inspire the people around you and to listen so that you continue to learn each and every day on the job.
